Trader Joe’s Workers walked off the job New Year’s Eve
Workers at the Minneapolis Trader Joe’s, who unionized with independent union Trader Joe’s United last August, held a thirty minute walkout on New Year’s Eve. Employees cited a recently adopted three-day minimum work week, abrupt scheduling changes, and stalling at the bargaining table as reasons for the ULP strike.
“These shifts in scheduling have disrupted our lives, leaving us scrambling to make ends meet at the New Year. They also come at a time when Trader Joe’s Corporate is refusing to budge at the bargaining table, purposely slowing things down to prevent us from getting a contract in a timely manner,” said Alexa Antonelli, the President of the Local.
Trader Joe’s United is made up of workers from the Hadley, MA store and the Minneapolis, MN store. On December 20th, workers at the Louisville, KY store announced their intent to unionize with Trader Joe’s United. They are awaiting an election date from the NLRB.
